Description

It is important to plan for scaffolding teaching by preparing differentiated scaffolded units that leverage the strengths and meet the needs of MLs of varying proficiency levels. The Scaffolded Unit Planning Checklist supports you in this process and provides you with ten areas to consider for MLs when planning a unit.

Considerations

Consider using this checklist collaboratively, with a co-teacher or a content or grade-level team. Over time, the guiding questions will become embedded in your planning routines and lead to better outcomes for the MLs in your context.

How It Works

Use the Scaffolded Unit Planning Checklist while developing a unit plan. Reference each question and consider whether your response is “yes” or “no.” If your response is “no,” work to embed that element into your unit to better meet the needs and support the strengths of the MLs in your context.
