Framework for Multilingual Learner Education
At SupportEd we frame all of our work — from professional development to technical assistance — on our five core beliefs. These beliefs include: strengths, climate, language, conversations, and advocacy.
These five core beliefs are derived from our best-selling book, Unlocking English Learners’ Potential: Strategies for Making Content Accessible. Our five core beliefs are used as the foundation for educators of Multilingual language learners. We look at these core beliefs as the Framework for Multilingual Learner Education.
1. Stengths
MLs bring many strengths to the classroom.

2. Climate
MLs learn best when they are taught in a welcoming and culturally responsive school climate.
3. Language
MLs acquire language and content when teachers purposefully integrate language development opportunities into meaningful content instruction.

4. Conversations
MLs thrive when their teachers include opportunities for peer learning and meaningful conversations.
5. Advocacy
MLs excel when teachers and administrators collaborate, advocate, and lead in support of their students’ academic achievement and social-emotional well-being.
