Description

Building our cultural awareness and competency is key to ensuring culturally responsive practices are integrated in classrooms and schools. This tool can be used to analyze your cultural competency by identifying your strengths and areas for growth.

Considerations

Consider completing this tool and reflecting on the results as a grade level or school team to support one another in building cultural competence. Staff reflections could be used by administrators to develop professional learning opportunities to build their staff’s cultural competency, such as book studies or community walks.

How It Works

Step 1: Read the list of characteristics in each of three categories (cultural awareness, knowledge, and skills).

Step 2: For each category, identify one area of strength and one area where you think you can improve.

Step 3: Answer the reflection questions.
