“As a coach, I find so much joy being in classrooms, working alongside teachers and students to bring learning to life. Whether I’m modeling strategies, co-teaching, or offering feedback during reflective conversations, I love supporting teachers to recognize their strengths and empowering them to build on them and create inclusive learning environments where multilingual learners can thrive.”

Coaching educators is truly about partnering with them to enhance student outcomes. As a coach, I’m passionate about supporting teachers as they build their confidence in working with multilingual learners. What I find most rewarding is being in the classroom, watching teachers’ plans unfold, and witnessing students actively engage with new strategies and academic routines.

Coaching educators on how to translate theory and policy into practice is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job. Each teacher comes with different experiences and knowledge about best practices for instruction for MLs. As I meet with educators in coaching cycles, I get to pull up my sleeves and get into the planning work of making content accessible for MLs while also building their language skills.

I also have the privilege of modeling for teachers and co-teaching with them as we implement those plans. As these projects unfold, I have the opportunity to see educators blossom and gain confidence in their ability to plan and implement various strategies to support their MLs academic success and I see their students thrive in the inclusive classroom environments these teachers are building.

“One of my favorite parts of coaching is brainstorming with a teacher how to support MLs in practicing the language they need to discuss academic content and then teaching the lesson together to try out the new strategy.”

“As a coach of teachers and also of other coaches, I enjoy building relationships with my partners and encouraging them to build upon their strengths and determine areas they’d like to prioritize. Together, we work through ideas to enhance their instruction and support of multilingual learners. It is very rewarding to witness the effects personalized coaching can have on multilingual learners and those who educate them.”

Coaching teachers is where we can make the greatest impact in enhancing instructional practice.  I love helping teachers apply skills they have learned in professional development sessions, and watch it come to life in the classroom!  We get to set individualized goals, plan together, model and practice strategies, and discuss the effectiveness of lessons.  The best part is seeing student outcomes improve as teachers grow their toolbox and skillset.

It is very satisfying when teachers are willing to try something outside their comfort zone because of a coaching session.  I love seeing teachers’ excitement when students are successfully engaged in quality peer interactions that challenge them to use academic language in authentic ways.  Coaching increases teachers’ confidence and ability to meet the needs of their diverse learners.  This makes coaching extremely rewarding.
