SupportEd releases new book on Social Emotional Learning for Multilingual Learners

FAIRFAX, VA — A brand-new book on social emotional learning (SEL) for multilingual learners (MLs) will be released April 30, 2024. Co-authored by SupportEd’s Diane Staehr Fenner, PhD, and Mindi Teich, MEd, the new book is titled Social Emotional Learning for Multilingual Learners: Essential Actions for Success

The book serves as an engaging guide which showcases SEL considerations that are unique to MLs, relevant research, easy-to-implement educator actions, and practical tools to seamlessly integrate SEL practices into content and language instruction for MLs.

Staehr Fenner founded SupportEd in 2011 to aid educators in supporting MLs. She is the author of eight books on ML education and is a sought-after keynote presenter across North America. With a background in English language development (ELD) teaching and assessment, she spent a decade as an ELD teacher, dual language assessment teacher, and ELD assessment specialist in Fairfax County Public Schools and taught English in Mexico and Germany.

Teich, ML Coach at SupportEd, has dedicated over 20 years to advocating for MLs and supporting their teachers. Beginning as an ELD teacher in DC Public Schools, she embraced the co-teaching model and provided training on collaborative practices. Teich also provides ongoing professional development, coaching, and technical assistance to school districts in support of MLs.
